Great Opportunity for Young Performers at the Library Theatre

The Library Theatre Company is one of the leading producing theatre companies in the North West. A key part of the work that they do is - norfox Young Actor's Company who produce two shows and year and have the opportunity to work with a variety of professional practitioners to develop their skills as performers.

Following the success of their last show "The Magnificent Tale of Emily Law and Arturo the Waterboy" a couple of members of the group have moved on to university so they’re now looking for new people to join them.

The Library Theatre want to hear from young people who are reliable, committed and who really have the drive and enthusiasm to make the most of this great opportunity.

If you know anyone who may be interested in getting involved all they need to do is drop them an email with their contact details and a paragraph explaining why they would like to join the group.

The Library Theatre will get back in contact by mid September to let you know if you’ve got a place.

If you, or any young people who are interested have any questions before they apply to join just drop them a line.

By the way, sessions take place on a Wednesday from 5pm - 7pm in Manchester City Centre so anyone who wants to join us will need to be free then!

Theatre in the Rough Festival 2011, Theatre in the Rough

The Theatre in the Rough Festival 2011 is launching and is looking for young writers aged 13-25 from across Merseyside to create new work for next year's event.

Writers' work will be performed at a Liverpool theatre in spring 2011, published as an anthology, and will also form part of an exhibition at the Botanic Gardens Museum in Southport.

Theatre in the Rough 2011 is based around the theme of 'Sefton's Hidden History'. Did you know that future US president Theodore Roosevelt fought with Jefferson Davis Jnr. on Crosby beach in 1869? Or that in 1910, a third of Britain's registered daredevil pilots were based in Formby?

These, and other hidden histories, will be brough crashing into the present - these will be exciting and thoughful plays for today, not just dusty museum pieces. They will be bold, imaginative, provocative and poetic.

Participants will have access to weekly playwriting workshops, working with professional arts practitioners. Participants should be aged between 13-25, and may work in groups of up to 4 people. The project is also ideal for performers who may wish to devise a new piece.

Further information and a short application form is available at http://www.theatreintherough.com/fest2011.htm

The Theatre in the Rough Festival 2011 is funded by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, and Express Sefton.

The Theatre in the Rough Festival 2009 produced 14 new plays by 24 young writers to sell out audiences at the Southport Arts Centre.

The Theatre in the Rough Festival is a Registered Charity No. 1133246

Submissions wanted for online writing project, Birkbeck Institute for Social Research

Out On A Limb is a new, online visual art and creative writing project based on the Wirral. It is hosted at http://www.outonalimbwirral.net and we're looking for people to submit stories to the collection.

Out On A Limb is the outcome of a four-month project, commissioned by Art for Places, a public art initiative delivered by Liverpool Biennial. Since April, Wirral artist Elaine Speight and novelist Jenn Ashworth have been working with eight budding writers from the Wirral: Doreen Etes, Louise Jones, Barbara Lamb, Jensen Wilder, Robbe Law, Keith Szlamp, Margaret Stocker and Dot Phillips, to produce a collection of short stories about the area.

The stories, which include tales of ladybird invasions, phantom wedding dresses and adventurous cows, were created on individual blogs, which also include photographs, drawings and video, and provide an insight into the writers’ experiences and observations of the project and other aspects of their lives on the Wirral.

The Out On A Limb website has been designed to bring together the nine stories produced by Jenn and the group, and to encourage other people to add their own Wirral stories to the collection.

For more information about the Out On A Limb project, please e-mail info@outonalimbwirral.net.

Volunteer Performers

Of All The People In All The World is a performance installation in which provocative global and local statistics are measured out in rice, one grain per person. By doing no more than making abstract statistics tangible and placing them in careful relation to each other, Stan’s Cafe create a powerful and informative work. Each day a team of performers carefully weigh out rice to represent different population statistics. The show responds to the interests and suggestions of its audience and these statistics become an ever changing sculptural landscape, their combinations tell true stories that are by turns shocking, celebratory, witty, thought provoking and deeply moving.

Stans Cafe artists will be present throughout the installation carefully researching new statistics, developing themes, weighing out and placing the rice, maintaining the installation and engaging with the public and we need a team of local performers to assist and support them.

The installation will be held in Tokyo at the same time as Oldham and is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in performing arts, challenging and interactive theatre and working with a world renowned, innovative arts organisation.

As a volunteer you will be required to perform and interact with the visitors, as well as gathering statistics and weighing out the rice. You may also be asked to help lift large sacks of rice and help with the get in and get out of the installation.

We are looking for volunteers who

•Have an interest in the performing arts

•Are friendly and affable!

•Have knowledge of the local area

•Have an interest in current affairs

•Are a team player

•Have a willingness to get stuck in

•Are in good physical health

If you are interested, you will need to be available between the below dates and times:

Tuesday 7th - Tuesday 28th September 2010

Monday to Saturday: 10am – 5pm

Sunday: 10am – 4pm
