Mentoring

Mentor Street signWhat is a Mentor?

A Mentor is someone, who by using their skills, experience & knowledge will encourage someone to develop their full potential.

About mentoring:

From time to time we can all benefit from some kind of support and guidance. A good mentoring programme will provide motivation and inspiration through a sharing of information, experience and expertise. It will encourage personal and/or professional development by identifying individual needs, setting clear aims and objectives and taking steps of progression to meet those aims.

A mentor will do all or some of the following:

•Listen

•Help you create a work plan that suits you

•Act as a sounding-board

•Challenge you to help raise your self-awareness

•Help you to explore goals, actions and find solutions to barriers.

•Help you to build your confidence

•Provide feedback

•Encourage focused reflection

•Inspire you to fulfil your potential

Source Mentoring is a unique service for Disabled People who have a keen interest in the Arts and who may wish to pursue their interest further through education, training and even employment. This service is also available to established artists, graduates or those mid career.

As a Mentee you would be matched with a trained Mentor who has experience working in the Arts in a variety of areas such as administration, management, acting, dancing and Visual Art.

Your Mentor would meet with you, on average, once a month to discuss your professional development, help you to focus on work, provide you with information and sometimes opportunities to meet with individuals and organisations who may be able to provide you with additional information and support.

Mentors are purely people who have a lot of experience in the arts and would like to pass that experience on to someone else. Having a Mentor is a bit like having a human sounding board – someone to chat with about your plans, your ideas and your future. They are not there to judge you or tell you what to do, just support you in the direction you want to go in.

If you decide to take part in Mentoring you will automatically benefit from our Professional Development Planning Service or a Pre Mentoring session.

If you would like more information or would like to apply please contact Vicki McCorkell our Mentoring Co-ordinator her contact details are:
